Cristian Romero’s name is still trending on social media – 24 hours after a disastrous North London derby.
Spurs lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal and many criticised the World Cup winning centre back for his role in conceding from a corner. After the game Jamie Carragher wrote on X: “Romero’s start to the season has been very poor!”
The Argentine, 26, then drew more attention to himself after reposting a tweet suggesting he was tired during the feisty fixture.
TV reporter Gaston Edul wrote: “Tottenham lost to Arsenal again. They weren’t able to fight until the end because they weren’t across the details.
“It was the only Premier League club that made their international players return, on their own and without proper logistics, on the decision of the club’s leadership. They gave away the advantage because their players arrived with less rest than the others: Cuti Romero played with tiredness.”
Romero, who represented his country against Colombia on Wednesday (September 11), reposted the message briefly before later writing that the defeat “hurt” but that he had “no doubt” Spurs would start winning again soon.
With all eyes on the burly defender, we decided to take a look inside his family life.
Meet the Romero’s
Romero is married to a woman called Karen Cavaller who, according to her Instagram page, works in human resources.
Karen Cavaller is expecting baby number two with Romero
Unlike many WAGs, her social media page is set to private, and she has 3,626 followers, including Romero’s Spurs and Argentina teammate, Giovani Lo Celso.
Her profile picture shows her lying by the sea in a bikini and the stunning brunette was born in Cordoba, Argentina.
Romero is also from the same city and he met Karen in 2018 before he joined Genoa CFC in Italy after playing for Club Atletico Belgrano in Cordoba.
After just two years of dating, they then got married in June 2020 and just 12 months later they revealed they were expecting a child.
Romero, unafraid to express his emotions, wrote: “I want to kiss, hug and fill you with tenderness and love. I can not wait for you to arrive. A tremendous happiness, and we could not expect more. We’re going to be parents. The best news of our lives, my love @karencavaller.”
And in 2022, Romero achieved his life-long dream of winning the World Cup with Argentina, before he again tagged his wife.
Sharing a picture of his wife and son, Valentino, who joined him on the pitch after beating France, he said: “How I love you two my loves. They are my everything.”
The lovers met when they both lived in Argentina
Karen also posted pictures of her son and husband playing football at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium together last month.
Romero reposted it and his wife said: “Everytime I see them I think of how lucky I am to have them. The men in my life. I love you.”
Back in July the loved up couple released photos showing that Karen was pregnant once again.
And in another gushy post, Romero said: “Everything is prettier next to you. My woman.”
The Tottenham hard nut is known for his robust tackling and one video showed him jokingly slide tacking Valentino, who was just one at the time.
He gave his little boy a hug after the challenge and one fan joked: “Even Romero’s own baby ain’t safe lmao.”
“I’ve seen a red given for less,” jibed a second. “Wife must of already given him a yellow for him to pull out like that,” quipped a third.
Even before becoming a superstar on the pitch, Romero always possessed a big heart, something his mother has spoken publicly about.
His mum, Rosa, told Super Deportivo Radio how he used his first wages from football to treat her.
She revealed: “My birthday was approaching and three weeks before they took me to see different houses.
“I thought it was a house that Cuti wanted to buy for himself, because I always insisted that he invest in one. I didn’t have my own house and when he showed me around, he asked me if I liked it.
“I was delighted, it was a very nice brand new house and suddenly he told me: ‘This house is your birthday present’.
“To this day I remember it and I can’t speak much about it, I get emotional…”
