Disney+ beats Netflix: everyone wants to watch this new hit series now

With so many new series, you don’t want to waste your valuable time and only watch really good things. This undoubtedly includes the new series “Shōgun”, which can be seen on Disney+ in this country. It’s really hitting its stride in the USA and is relegating one of Netflix’s hopes to second place.

Congratulations to Disney+.

“Shōgun” has been shown on Disney+ in Germany since February 27th . The mini-series is the new edition of the well-known and popular series from the eighties. Both formats are based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell.

Netflix is left behind: Disney+ lands a new hit with “Shōgun”.

It seems that the makers have shown the right instinct, because in the USA “Shōgun” is currently the most-watched streaming series and therefore ends up in first position in the charts (source: Reelgood ). Netflix, on the other hand, has to admit defeat and the new series hope “Avatar – The Lord of the Elements” only ends up in second place.

Worth knowing: In the US, “Shōgun” is released on Hulu. But like Disney+, it also belongs to the Walt Disney Company.

In contrast to Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu follow a slightly different publishing policy. Not all episodes of the mini-series will be released at the same time. Instead, there were only the first two episodes in a double pack. Since then there has been a new episode every week . Disney+ subscribers can expect the grand finale with episode 10 on April 23, 2024 ( watch on Disney+ )

A complete success:

There probably won’t be a direct sequel. Typical of a mini-series that is a complete story. The novel itself does not allow for any greater scope.

Critics and viewers are ecstatic

But why does “Shōgun” end up in first place? After all, fans of the first series adaptation 40 years ago cannot be solely responsible for this. It is the quality that ultimately convinces. A previous IMDb rating of 9.2 points is nothing short of exhilarating.

An image that is reflected in the positive vote of the professional critics at Roten Tomatoes – 99 percent is already an announcement . The 93 percent given by viewers isn’t really any worse, but is on the IMDb level.

In short: “Shōgun” deservedly secures first place in the US streaming charts. Even if you don’t like series, you can tune in with peace of mind, because as we all know, a mini-series is not threatened with a surprise cancellation. The end is foreseeable and predetermined – just like in a film.
